Installing NEC DSX System Administrator 3 on a Windows 8 PC

This Tech Tip demonstrates how to avoid installation issues by disabling a driver signature enforcement on any Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 Operating System.

Important

CAUTION: Performing this procedure will be disabling all driver signatures for anything downloaded after the steps below are completed. It is recommended that after you have successfully downloaded the needed NEC DSX Software onto your computer that you go back and enable the driver signature enforcement by re-booting the PC.

Instructions

Windows 8.0

  1. Press Win + C on your keyboard to open the Windows Charm bar.
  2. Select the gear icon in the charm bar.  Selecting this icon will bring you to the modern ui control panel.
  3. Select ‘General‘, scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and click on the restart button located under the ‘Advanced Startup‘ section.
  4. After restarting in the advanced mode, a screen will come up with two options. Select the ‘Troubleshoot‘ option.
  5. When the ‘Troubleshoot‘ option is selected, another window will appear. Find and click the option that says ‘Advanced options’.
  6. In the advanced options window, select the ‘Startup settings‘ option.
  7. Inside the ‘Startup settings‘ window, a list of selectable boot options will appear. Press the F7 key to disable driver signature enforcement.
  8. Once you’ve selected the option to disable driver signature enforcement reboot back into windows.
  9. Download the NEC DSX System Administrator and begin programming.

Windows 8.1

  1. Press Win + C on your keyboard to open the Windows Charm bar.
  2. Select the gear icon in the charm bar.  Selecting this icon will bring you to the modern ui control panel.
  3. In the Modern UI control panel find ‘Update & Recovery‘ on the left hand side of the menu.
  4. Once in ‘Update & recovery,’ select ‘Recovery‘ in the list of options on the left hand side of the modern ui menu.
  5. After restarting in the advanced mode, a screen will come up with two options. Select the ‘Troubleshoot‘ option.
  6. When the ‘Troubleshoot‘ option is selected, another window will appear. Find and click the option that says ‘Advanced options’.
  7. In the advanced options window, select the ‘Startup Settings‘ option.
  8. Inside the ‘Startup Settings‘ window, a list of selectable boot options will appear. Press the F7 key to disable driver signature enforcement.
  9. Once you’ve selected the option to disable driver signature enforcement reboot back into windows.
  10. Download the NEC DSX System Administrator and begin programming.
